There are many words I could use to describe Liv and Sam’s wedding but all I keep reaching for is Holy Shit.
Like life, weddings are something that you never quite know how it’s going to turn out and this wedding was a stunning display of that.
The day started out as many weddings do, I visit the groom, the bride. While the boys are hanging and drinking beers the girls are trying to strategically place boobs and yanking on spanks, you know, the general wedding stuff. But never in my wildest imagination could I ever quite anticipate what would happen next.
I arrive at the ceremony, held at this amazing Aborteum (a botanical garden of mostly trees). I’m running late (those boobs would not go where they were meant to) and I quickly do some details shots at the reception. I then haul arse down to the ceremony which was being held under these GIANT trees shaped as a Cathedral. As I got there it started to rain and I could see all the guests huddled under umbrellas. I thought it wouldn’t come to much but then it got heavier and heavier and BAM the sky opened and torrential rain came down.
I was standing there shocked, lost for words (this rarely happens). I’ve been shooting weddings for 7 years and I’d never been in a situation like this. The Groom finally calls it and the guests make their way up sandy paths that had now become streams of muddy water to the Marquee.
Anyway you get the picture it RAINED like a mother f****** and what I thought could end up a disaster ended up to be an absolute hoot of a day.
Sam and all his friends kicked in action and made a isle in the marquee and he sweetly bagpiped his beloved Livy down the isle. Everyone was so emotional because they knew how hard they had worked to prepare for this amazing wedding and it hadn’t quite worked out the way they had planned. But it didn’t matter, NOT ONE BIT. Everyone was there to celebrate these two awesome humans and their love for each other and even though they were drenched to the bone, mud up their legs, they cheered, smiled and cried watching these two say I do. I swear the rain made the day.
Not one guest will ever forget that wedding. I’m sure it will be talked about for years to come, maybe not for the same reasons Liv and Sam would have thought, but does it really matter, it was still freaking awesome.
